Ecology : Genus of 6 species. Very little morphological variation exists in the genus; the delimitation of species is mainly based on flower type and whether they are deciduous or not. The species also hybridize freely
  gaining more and more horticultural interest, and numerous cultivars exist, derived principally from the deciduous A. campanulatus F. M. Leight. and the evergreen A. praecox Willd.
  endemic in southern Africa, ranging from the Cape Peninsula N-wards to the Limpopo River; only one reaching SW Mozambique
