Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Ecology : Closely related to Aerangis. Genus of 5 species in tropical and southern Africa (map in Pridgeon & al. Gen. orchid. 6: 429, 2014). The genus was established (Summerhayes, 1936) “to include some anomalous angraecoid orchids with their pollinia attached by filiform tegulae to a common, oblong viscidium” (Pridgeon & al., l.c.). However, the boundaries of Rangaeris and related genera are not clearly established. “It is difficult to pick out just what distinguishes Rangaeris” (I. & E. la Croix, Afric. orchids wild & cult.: 313, 1997).
