Biology : Perennial herb 12-50 cm tall with rhizome; leaves several, linear to narrowly lanceolate, c. 1/2 as long as the stem, 2-8 mm wide, all basal except for 1-2 near stem apex (this 3-5 cm long); stem compressed, broadly winged, 2-4 mm wide, nearly unbranched; flower clusters 1-3, terminal or nearly so, usually 4-flowered; flowers blue, ± sessile; tepals 4,5-12x6-7 mm; capsule ovoid-obovoid, 5-8 mm long, ± sessile or on pedicel 1-2 mm.
Ecology : Short grassland; forest edges; especially on thin rocky soils; 1330-3800 m alt.
