Biology : Herb 55-80 cm tall; corm globose, c. 2-2,5 cm Ø; leaves 3, largely sheathing, with short or vestigial blades 0,5-5 cm long; floral bracts 1,5-2,5 cm long; perianth tube 1,6-2 cm long; flowers bright red-purple with dark-red to purple markings at bases of lower tepals; capsule 2-2,5 cm long.
Ecology : Lightly rocky grassland; sometimes in rocky soils and rock outcrops; 60 m alt.
  Not in Goldblatt, Gladiolus in Trop. Africa (1996).
