Biology : Herb 60-90 cm tall; corm c., 1,5 cm Ø; leaves 3-4 basal, reaching ± the spike, 7-12 mm wide; flowers with tubes 4,2-8,8 cm long and about half as long again to twice as long as the bracts; perianth white with large conspicuous dark red to violet markings on lower tepals; anthers without apiculate appendages.
Ecology : Grassy crags near streams and waterfalls; shrubby hillsides in montane grassland; wet grassland; 1300-2000 m alt.
  Resembling white-flowering G. callianthus (with still longer perianth, and anthers with apiculate appendages). In morphology close to G. usambarensis.
