Biology : Plants ± caespitose, to 1 m tall; closely related to P. mahonii

Ecology : Quartzitic sand, often among quartzite boulders or in quartzitic scree; preferring moist or boggy habitats; 900-1800 m alt. – Fairly common within its (restricted) area.
  A fair number of plants are endemic on the Chimanimani Mts, e.g. Tephrosia chimanimaniana, Xyris asterotricha.
