Ecology : Deciduous, semi-deciduous, or evergreen (primary and secondary) forests; apparently with preference for the drier types but also in ground-water forest; often in forest gallery; forest islands in savanna regions, or left there as single trees[…]
  0-1350 m alt. Timber excellent, and becoming rare due to overexploitation (Kenya, fide Beentje). Young trees often galled. – Recently replanted in Malawi, after exploitation.
