Biology : Annual climber or trailer to 5 m long; stems herbaceous, strapshaped at the base.
Ecology : Rain-forest and riverine forest, elephant-grass thicket and in plantations; sandy soils; grassy savanna, swamp; also ruderal; 0-1650 m alt. Cultivated. Pantropical, but probably introduced in the New World; S. Africa.
