Biology : Perennial climber to 6 m long; stems subsucculent, becoming rather woody with smooth greyish bark, expanded at base into a greenish dome-like semi-subterranean tuber to >50 cm .
Ecology : Deciduous bushland, woodland, wooded grassland in rocky places; hygrophilous and riverine forests; clearings; 0-2000 m alt. – Cultivated.
