Biology : Annual herb ± 25-65 cm tall, much branched from near the base upwards, with long divergent or more divaricate branches; stem and branches glabrous, slender, striate, terete, or the stem somewhat sulcate.

Ecology : Occasional weed; waste ground, presumably as an escape; 1700-1950 m alt. (Kenya).
  Apparently native to India. Widely cultivated as a spice in certain warmer regions of the Old World, from N Africa, Ethiopia, Asia Minor, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India. – Not mapped.
