Ecology : Sandy or rocky beaches; sea-level. Also perhaps cultivated in Pemba and Zanzibar; Dar es Salaam Botanic Garden (cultivated). Seychelles, Mauritius, Comoro Is., Madagascar; from India to S Vietnam, Formosa, Australia (Queensland), the Pacific.
  Introduced into Hawaii, West Indies, St. Helena and Guyana.
