Ecology and distribution

Biology : Stem to 40 m tall and to 40 cm in diameter, covered with prominent leaf scar; leaves 30-40, forming a globose to conical crown; fruits globose, 0.5-2 (-5 ) cm of diameter, dark brown to black.
Ecology : Livistona carinensis grows in or adjacent to intermittently flowing streams or soaks in valley bottoms, but never fully dry soils, in semi-arid regions with less than 400 mm per year.
  The populations in Yemen and Somalia are highly significant for the conservation of the species genetic diversity (Shapcott et al., 2009)
