Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Biology : Stemless palm, clustering and forming extensive thickets; leaves to 3 m long; leaflets up to 50 on each side of rachis, inserted in 1-2 planes of orientation; fruits spheroid-ovoid, 10-16 mm long and 8-12 mm in diameter, deep orange to purplish brown when ripe.
Ecology : Grows in dry wadis, semi-desert bushland and rocky crevices up to 900 m in Somalia (Thulin, 1995) and up to 1950 m in Saudi Arabia (Collenette, 1985).
  It may be also present in the Arabian Peninsula
