Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Biology : Stem to 25 m tall and 20-30 cm in diameter, almost always straight; leaves numerous, to 5 m long, frequently with an arched rachis and more or less pendant leaflets; inflorescences once branched, covered by a woody peduncular bract; fruits 1-seeded.
Ecology : In Africa common in coastal habitats, particularly sandpits and similar in-shore island situations (Tuley, 1995).
