Ecology : Exposed rock faces in shallow pocket of soil; seasonally waterlogged ground, sometimes in shallow soils over sandstone or laterite outcrops; moss-turf water choked up on dripping rocks; doleritic escarpments with Afrotrilepis pilosa; in tufts on granitic
  Variable in colour of glumes and nutlets. Robust stands of S. delicatula can easily be mistaken for S. flexuosa.
