Ecology : Dry swamp edges; savannas with temporarily foul soil; seasonal or permanently swampy areas in grassland; ? - 1000 - 1400 m alt.
  Distinguished from S. parvula by the larger male spikelets and larger nutlet. Differs from S. foliosa by the nutlet surface.
