Biology : Tufted annual or short-lived perennial herb; rhizome whitish, horizontal, to 1-5x1-1,5 mm; culms 1-3 cm tall, 0,3-0,4 mm Ø; leaf sheath brown, 4-10x0,4-0,8 mm; blade 3-7 cm long, 0,6-1,5 mm wide; inflorescence pseudolateral; spikelet 1, 4-5x2-2,5 mm.
Ecology : Bog; 4350 m alt.
  Known only from the type collected in 1979. Closely related to I. keniaensis and I. ruwenzoriensis, all with striate nutlets, and well- developed leaves. Haines & Lye (1983) suggested a hybrid origin with I. setacea and I. fluitans as parents.
