Ecology : In wooded tall grassland subject to annual burning, and in Brachystegia woodland, usually in shade; frost and fire tolerant; 300-2000 m alt.
  Susceptible to rust and does not do well in cultivation. Forming hybrids with A. bulbicaulis (W Zambia) and A. cameronii (Zimbabwe).
  Botswana (cf. Hargreaves in Alsterworthia Int. 7/1: 6, 2007; 8/3: 16, 2008).
