Biology : Perennial herb, solitary, or suckering to produce a cluster of 2-12 stems up to 20 cm long and 1,5-3 cm thick; leaves rosulate, erect, grass-like,

Ecology : In montane and dambo grasslands, high rainfall Brachystegia woodlands; often on rocky slopes; 1250-2650 m alt.
  Variable in width of leaves and size of flowers, influenced by local ecological conditions. Plants on rocky slopes are smaller in all parts than those in grassland.
