Biology : Rosettes stemless, rarely developing short erect stems in shaded sites, solitary or forming small groups;

Ecology : Open grassland, often between clumps of evergreen bushes, on rocky slopes to level areas with darker soil; 500-2200(-3000) m alt.
  Very variable, "perhaps only dubiously separable from A. lateritia ... and A. saponaria ..." – Plants from high altitudes are smaller with very broad leaves.
