Biology : Perennial herb from a short rhizome, often robust

Ecology : Wet swamps among coarse grass; sometimes growing with E. pictum; ditches; sometimes in shallow standing water; common and sometimes locally dominant; damp meadows with Droseraceae, Utricularia spp.; very lofty spongy pastures; 450-2000 m alt.
  Very variable in: leaf length; colour of bracts, sepal tips, capitulum.
