Biology : Epiphytic herb, usually a tuft of pendent or upward-curving stems with numerous roots between leaves below; stem to 60 cm long, ± flattened; leaves distichous, fleshy, with overlapping bases, bilaterally compressed, lanceolate-oblong, 1-2x0,2-0,3 cm, ± needle-like; inflorescences opposite leaves, appearing axillary, 1-flowered; pedicel very short; flowers white; tepals linear, obtuse, 4,5-5x1,5-2 mm; lip sac-like, obovate, obtuse, 5x4 mm, 3-lobed; spur 4,5-6 mm long, straight, funnel-shaped, apex suddenly acute.
Ecology : Primary rain-forest; shady places; on Gilbertiodendron dewevrei, Dialium corbisieri; 1-1500 m alt.
  A hybrid A. distichum x A. podochiloides registered as ‘Cesária Évora’ in March 2013 (International Orchid Hybrid Register); made by Leon Glicenstein of Hoosier Nursery, Indianapolis, USA (icon.: Orchid Rev. 121/1302: 75, 2013).
