Biology : Terrestrial or epilithic or sometimes epiphytic herb 20-70 cm tall; tubers few, globose to ellipsoid, 1,7-3,5 cm long, 0,7-1,5 cm Ø; leaves 6-8, membranous, (broadly) lanceolate to elliptic, 5-13x2-5 cm; inflorescence 6,5-16 cm long, laxly 6-20-flowered; bracts to 3,8 cm long; pedicel and ovary to 15 mm long; flowers 2-3 cm Ø, greenish brown to purple, lip magenta or pinkish, with white central part purple spotted; sepals oblong(-lanceolate), 9-13x2,4-4,5 mm; petals falcate, ovate-lanceolate, 8,5-12x2,5-4 mm; lip broadly obcordate, 15-22x15-27 mm, apex deeply split; spur 7-10 mm long, 3,5-5 mm Ø at base, cylindrical, saccate, apex finger-like.
Ecology : Swampy gallery forest with Phoenix reclinata; along watercourses; humid savanna; secondary forest and scrub; forests on slopes; on rocks in grassland; edge of bush path; in shady places; on gravelly soil; on moss covered boulders in forest; margins of fringing forest; under Mango trees; 170-1600 m alt.
  Similar to several Indian and Indo-Chinese species, e.g. B. helferi (Rchb. f.) Summerh.
  Inflorescence very distinct: bracts small.
  Occasionally cultivated, but difficult to obtain.
