Biology : Terrestrial erect reed-like herb 0,5-2 m tall with fibrous roots (no tubers); stem semi-woody, leafy; leaves dark green, elliptic-lanceolate, acuminate, 11-35x3-10 cm, base narrow and sheathing, petiole short; inflorescences axillary, 1-4, much shorter than leaves, 10-20-flowered, erect to drooping; bracts c. 1 cm long; flowers non-resupinate, white or greenish; perianth segments ± equal, spreading, linear-spathulate, 4,5-8x0,2-0,5 cm, apex broadened; lip linear, clawed, 4,5-9x0,5-1,3 cm, with 2 distinct longitudinal keels, apex broadened; capsule to 3 cm long, 6-ribbed.
Ecology : Evergreen and semi-deciduous forests; rain-forest with Chrysophyllum albidum, Cola gigantea, Erythrophleum suaveolens, Alstonia boonei, Parinari excelsa, Milicia excelsa; tall secondary forest; often at base of trees on forest floor, in deep shade; 0-1400 m alt.
