Biology : Epiphytic or epilithic herb; pseudobulbs 0,7-4 cm apart, 2-leaved, orbicular to ellipsoid, 0,4-3,2x0,4-1,2 cm, 4-angled; leaves suberect, lanceolate-elliptic, 0,6-8x0,4-2 cm; inflorescence erect, 1,5-17 cm long, 5-36-flowered; peduncle 0,7-6 cm long; rachis 1-16 cm long, swollen, flattened, 4-angled in section, winged on each side, wings denticulate; bracts spreading, distichous, ovate, yellow often suffused red, triangular, 3-7x1,7-3,6 mm; flowers yellow, orange to dark red-purple, with conspicuous dark longitudinal stripes, standing out (rachis not so deeply channelled and not so enclosed in the bracts as in B. fuscum); sepals lanceolate-ovate, 4,6-6,6x1,6-3,8 mm; petals linear, rounded, 1-3,4x0,2-0,75 mm; lip elliptic-oblong, 1,4-2,5x0,6-1,2 mm, recurved half-way, bilaterally flattened, apex bulbous.
Ecology : Rain-forest, forest, riverine forest, swampy places; occasionally Brachystegia woodland; in moss cushions, often on dead tree branches; 2-10 m above ground level; mossy rocks in shade of evergreen vegetation; found on Cola sp., Albizia zygia, Carapa grandiflora; 30-2300 m alt.
