Biology : Epiphytic or lithophytic herb; pseudobulbs 0,5-1,8 cm apart, 1-leafed, ovoid, 0,7-2,5x0,6-2,2 cm, obtusely 2-4-angled; leaf linear-lanceolate, 4-16x1-2,5 cm, thick; inflorescence 6-36 cm long, 10-100-flowered; peduncle 2,5-13 cm long; rachis 3,5-23 cm long; bracts recurved, lanceolate, 2-7,5x1-2,5 mm; flowers creamy white, not fully open; sepals not recurved, lanceolate, 5,5-10x1,2-3,5 mm; petals not recurved, oblong, 2,5-3x0,8-1 mm, margins very finely papillose; lip recurved, elliptic, 2,2-3,5x1,3-2 mm, with stiff hairs round the margin.
Ecology : Forest; semi-deciduous high forest; relict forest in savanna; degraded forest; cocoa plantations; 0-2000 m alt.
  A possible hybrid with B. josephii is recorded (fide Vermeulen, 1987: 76). Note: In their Check-list Sosef & al. (2006: l.c.) give Isolepis schimperiana Hochst. as a synonym of Bulbophyllum schimperiana. According to Fl. Eth. & Eritrea 6: 421, 1997, Isolepis schimperiana Hochst. ex A. Rich. is the basionym of Bulbostylis schimperiana, Cyperaceae.
