Biology : Dwarf epiphytic, rarely lithophytic herb; rhizome very short, interwoven; pseudobulbs clustered, 1-leafed, ovoid, 0,3-1x0,3-0,7 cm, bluntly 4-angled; leaf linear-oblong, 1-5x0,3-1 cm; inflorescence 2-30 cm long, erect, 3-12-20-flowered, usually > 4 times as long as leaves; peduncle wiry, 2-11 cm long; rachis wiry, arching, 0,2-19 cm long; bracts oblong, 1,5-4x1-2 mm; flowers distichous, not fully open, greenish cream, suffused with purple(-red), or entirely purple; sepals ovate, 3,5-4x c. 2 mm; petals oblong, c. 2x1 mm; lip recurved, ovate, 1,2-4x0,7-2 mm, fleshy, auriculate at base, 2-ridged in basal half, margins ciliate, papillate.
Ecology : Rain-forest; evergreen riverine forest; moist forest; mist forest; forest patches in grassland; sometimes in high-rainfall Brachystegia woodland; forming clumps on trunks and branches of trees, embedded in moss; found on, e.g., Cola sp., Carapa grandiflora; 2-5 m above ground level; 100-2000 m alt.
  Variable in vegetative parts, and in shape and hairiness of lip. Similar to B. josephi but smaller.
  Bioko/Fernando Poo, S. Tomé, Príncipe, Annobón. Seychelles. Not in Madagascar.
  Difficult to grow (collections).
