Biology : Epiphytic or lithophytic herb; pseudobulbs 3-13 cm apart; 1-2-leaved, ellipsoid, 2,7-7,5x1-3 cm, sharply 4-angled; leaves petiolate (2-15 mm), (linear-)lanceolate, 8-25x1,2-5 cm, thick; inflorescence 15-38 cm long, densely 28-68-flowered; peduncle erect, 10-12 cm long; rachis erect, 5-23 cm long, flattened, 4-angled in section, with blackish or purplish scaly hairs also on bracts; bracts concave, scarious, 1,5 times longer than flowers borne in the 2 concave sides of rachis; flowers recurved, not fully open, yellow with dark red spots, or red, or dark purple; sepals triangular, 4-5,2x1,5-3 mm; petals ± linear, 2,5-3,2x0,3-0,5 mm; lip rectangular, 1,5-2,5x0,8-1,7 mm, margins denticulate.
Ecology : Humid forest; riverine forest; semi-deciduous forest; on tree branches, to 25 m above ground level; rocky mountain slopes, granite rocks; 1000-1700 m alt.
  Confused with B. tetragonum.
