Ecology and distribution

Biology : Epiphytic herb; stem woody, to 4-10 cm long; roots numerous, greyish, 2-3 mm Ø; leaves 4-8, distichous, oblanceolate or shortly ovate, 4-15-25x1,5-5 cm, somewhat oblique, venation conspicuous, apex 2-lobed; inflorescences pendent, borne below leaves, to 30 cm long, 4-15-24-flowered; peduncle to 6 cm long; rachis straight; flowers white; pedicel and ovary 1-2 cm long; tepals oblong, 0,7-1,3x0,2-0,4 cm, strongly reflexed; lip (ovate-)oblong, 0,7-1,2x0,3-0,5 cm; spur pinkish or light brown, curving forwards, 6,5-9 cm long.
Ecology : Forest; riverine forest; evergreen forest; high rainfall woodland; Brachystegia woodland; on cypress tree in township; can occur profusely on small twigs overhanging water; rarely epilithic; at low levels, in deep shade; 0-1800 m alt.
  Very variable in size of leaves and flowers. Can be confused with A. appendiculata.
  Very easily grown; showy plant although small. "In cultivation, often mistaken for A. montana and the white-flowered form of A. mooreana, perhaps a result of wishful thinking" (la Croix, 2014a: 114).
