Note: Summerhayes in Kew Bull. 13: 63, 1958, remarks that Rolfe (Fl. Trop. Afr. 7: 257, 1898) included several species in his concept of P. buchananii, including P. pervillei, P. mediocris; this has caused difficulty for subsequent workers. – Piers, Orchids E. Afr., ed. 2: 53, 1968, treated P. buchananii as a synonym of P. crocea subsp. crocea (Kenya mostly). – Ball, Terrestr. Afric. orchids: 236-237, 2009, presents a mixed gathering from Zimbabwe, Umtali (Mutare), and Inyanga. They were tentatively listed under P. buchananiana.
Plants previously referred to P. buchananiana from Mozambique are referable to P. pervillei. |
