Biology : Robust herb 26-70-125 cm tall; tubers 1-12, cylindrical, villous; cauline leaves 6-21, lax to dense, ovate, acute, 4-8-19x1-5 cm, usually withered at anthesis; inflorescence lax to dense, cylindrical, 4-33 cm long, many-flowered; flowers green and white; dorsal sepal erect, ovate, acute, 14-23x5-13 mm, very convex; lateral sepals patent, obliquely ovate, 13-26x5-10 mm; lower petal lobe white, linear, (18-)24-43x0,5-2 mm; lip 3-partite, lobes filiform, 15-45 mm long; spur toothed, 27-50 mm long, clavate.
Ecology : Thorn savanna; woodland, often in drier areas with summer rainfall; forest fringes; 0-1300 (-1700) m alt.
  A member of the B. speciosa complex. Resembling B. volkensiana, but rostellum structure different.
