Biology : Terrestrial herb 20-60 cm tall; tubers ellipsoid, 1-3 cm long, 0,6-2,5 cm Ø, glabrous or villous; cauline leaves 2-3(-5), narrowly lanceolate, 7-22x1-2 cm, veins prominent; inflorescence cylindrical, 3-16 cm long, 1,5-2,5 cm Ø, densely many(-60)-flowered; flowers white to pale lilac or purple, sometimes purple-spotted; sepals oblong-lanceolate, 3-5x1,5-3 mm; petals erect, obliquely triangular-quadrate, 2-4x2 mm; lip erect, linear, 1x0,3 mm; spur cylindrical, 3-7 mm long, sharply decurved below middle.
Ecology : Woodland; grassland, especially in damp places; (650-)1200-2750 m alt.
  Extremely variable in: general robustness, width of leaves, density of flowers, shape of sepals and spur.
