Biology : Terrestrial herb, slender, 17-46 cm tall; tubers subterranean, irregularly shaped, c. 4x2,5 cm; leaves just appearing at anthesis, linear, grass-like, 12-40x0,1-0,7 cm; inflorescence elongate, laxly 2-10-flowered, peduncle with 4 sheaths as long as internodes; flowers showy, pale to deep pink, often flushed with purple, lip darker with white setae; bracts 15-30 mm long; pedicel and ovary 8-15 mm long; sepals lanceolate 14-20x3-6 mm; petals similar, 14-16x4-5 mm; lip 15-20 mm long, 10-13 mm wide, 3-lobed; side lobes rounded; mid-lobe rotund, 8-9x10-13 mm, edges erose; callus of 2 ridges in basal half with some long papillae in centre of mid-lobe; spur cylindrical, 3-6 mm long, slender.
Ecology : Open grassland; wooded grassland with Terminalia, Hyphaene; dry grassland on Kalahari sand or on sandy soils; dambo grassland; 1000-1400 m alt.
  Note: In Fl. Cameroun 35: 611, 2001 (pl. 255 F-I) a drawing represents a lip of “E. malangana”, made from specim. Baum 564. This picture does not correspond with E. malangana nor E. malangensis (syn. of E. livingstoneana), but rather with E. holubii (for further discussion, see below under E. malangana).
