Biology : Terrestrial herb 30-80 cm tall; pseudobulbs subterranean, ellipsoid-cylindrical, 3-4,5x1 cm, in a chain; leaves 4-5, sub-erect, lanceolate, 17-100x3-10 cm, long-petiolate, folded; inflorescence 15-25-flowered, rachis 6-26 cm long; flowers spaced, spreading, brown (sepals) and white, lip green with purple callus, spur green purple-flushed; bracts linear, 10-20(-55)x1-2 mm; pedicel and ovary c. 15 mm long; sepals oblong, spreading, 18-23x2,5-5-7 mm; petals elliptic, 16-18x6,5-10 mm, overlying column; lip 14-15 mm long, 9(-16) mm wide, 3-lobed; side lobes oblong; mid-lobe 6x4,5 mm, margin undulate; callus of 3 ridges becoming 3-5 rows of short papillae on mid-lobe; spur 4-5 mm long, incurved; fruit pendent, 20-25 mm long.
Ecology : (Open) grassland, Loudetia grassland; bushland; grassy damp savanna with Imperata cylindrica, in rocky places; woodland on damp black soils; margins of woodland; edge of riverine and submontane forest; swamp; dambo; may persist in grass after forest has been cleared; 500-2330 m alt.
  Not common but where it occurs often forming good colonies. “Readily recognised by its spreading green and white flowers with violet markings on lip”.
