Terrestrial herb 4-15 cm tall; tuber ± globose, 0,4-1 cm long and wide; leaves cauline, alternate, sessile, ovate-lanceolate, 8-3x0,5-2,2 cm, papillose, green with silvery venation above, purplish beneath; inflorescence 2-6-flowered; flowers white and pale purple or pink, lip and hood yellow; bracts ovate-lanceolate, 3-11x1-7 mm; pedicel and ovary 10-12 mm long; dorsal sepal flat, joined to petals to form an open concave hood 7-12 mm long, 7-10 mm wide; lateral sepals obliquely ovate, 7-14x4-6 mm, united in lower 1/3, each with a sac 0,5-1 mm long; petals falcate, 10x2-3 mm; lip 4-6,5 mm long, with narrow claw sharply bent back on itself near base and there bearing a 2-lobed appendage with papillose lobes, the claw ending in a ± round blade with a high keel in centre. |

Brachystegia and Uapaca woodland; forest patches; in rich humus or sandy soil in grassy places under trees or among grass in woodland; often associated with rocks and their shelter; marshy places; with mosses in eroded gully on red soil; in semi-shade in open grassland under palms and Acacia trees; 500-2000 m alt. |
