Shrub or tree 3-12 m tall, much-branched and rather resembling an Olea; branches ± drooping or arched; bark of young trees pale and smooth, on older trees grey, ± rough; young shoots with dense white pubescence. |

Acacia- and Commiphora bushland; evergreen scrub with Euclea schimperi; grassland with scattered Terminalia, Acacia, etc.; open Juniperus forest with Pistacia; granite, sandstone, limestone, red clay; sometimes locally dominant in badly eroded bushland. 1200-2200 m alt. |
