Biology : Shrub or tree 2-8-15 m tall; bole to 50 cm Ø; leaves to 25 cm long (petiole 2-5 cm), 7-11-foliolate, sometimes 3-foliolate, often crowded at tips of branchlets.

Ecology : Wooded savanna, on various types of soil; edge of lateritic hardpan (very abundant) in savanna; lateritic scree; gravel; sandy places.
  The bark yields a red-brown dye.
