Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Biology : Climbing herb, robust, to 3 m long; stems glabrescent or sparsely appressed fulvous hairy (also calyx and pod), particularly at nodes; leaflets thick, drying blackish; flowers large, almost black; pod densely irritant-hairy, sigmoid.
Ecology : Brachystegia-Uapaca woodland; savanna; Julbernardia scrub; riverine and thicket vegetation scrambling over shrubs and amongst grasses; 610-1800 m alt.
  Similar to M. coriacea but flower wings glabrous, and leaflets glabrescent.
