Biology : Woody climber or subshrub 0,5-3-6 m tall from a thick woody rootstock; stems with appressed or spreading ferruginous hairs, later glabrescent; flowers usually deep red-purple.

Ecology : Grasslands without or with scattered trees; often in seasonally wet or marshy places; savannas; humid ferruginous pan; humid savanna; rocky outcrops with wet flushes and thin soil with Selaginella njamnjamensis, to 525-1500 m alt.
