Biology : Erect or somewhat spreading herb 0,1-1,2 m tall from a tough woody rootstock; stems glabrous to pubescent.
Ecology : Grassland (often swampy or seasonally waterlogged); but also on seasonally burnt grassland; open wooded grassland; old cultivations; dambo; open woodland with Acacia, Combretum, Brachystegia, etc.; sandy soil; 60-2400 m alt.
  S. Africa.
