Ecology and distribution

Biology : Perennial (rarely annual) herb, prostrate or suberect with sparsely to densely pubescent stems 8-75 cm long, usually much branched at base; leaves 4-folliolate, densely glandular-punctate; petals yellow or orange; pod with hooked bristles, eglandular.
Ecology : Sandy grasslands, floodplain grasslannd; Brachystegia, Terminalia-Parinari woodland, also other types of woodland; old cultivations; usually on sandy soils; 900-1900 m alt.
  Variable in shape and size of leaflets (linear to elliptic).
  Caprivi Strip, Namibia, Botswana, S. Africa.
  Forms similar to Z. capensis exist.
