Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Biology : Tree to 30 m tall and probably more, with spreading crown; bole branchless for to at least 12 m, DBH to 80(-?120) cm; base without or with small buttresses, sometimes slightly conical.

Ecology : Hill tops and slopes; also in valleys and small canyons, but never in swampy conditions; primary forest; may become common locally and may even form almost pure stands etc...
  Planted in Yangambi (Zaire).
  Confused with Tetraberlinia baregarum. First collected around 1943; in general has become very rare, and could not be traced recently (extensive logging in the 1940s and 1950s).
