Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Biology : Evergreen tree to 10 m, much branched with very dense, spherical, spreading crown; or a shrub 1-3 m tall with divergent branches.
Ecology : Drier savanna regions; plateau with ferrugineous hard-pan; thalwegs; dunes; forming bush on fallow land; valleys; flooded or humid areas; sandy-clayey soil; cultivations on sand; very poor soils; deteriorated sandstone; to 945-1825 m alt.
  Confused with P. thonningii when the leaves are old and ±without hairs.
