Ecology : Flooded riverine forest.
  subsp. Officinalis in C. America, Antilles, N.S America (coastal).
  Subsp. officinalis (syn.: P. draco L.; P. hemiptera Gaertn.; P. crispatus DC.; P. belizensis Standl.) in C America, Antilles, N S. America (coastal).
  A specimen from Brazzaville (Congo; Thollon 4134) has been misidentified as P. mildbraedii.
