Ecology and distribution
Trop. Afr.
Biology : Tree 7-30 m with verrucose trunk 50-90 cm Ø, 2,75 m in girth; rarely with narrow buttresses, but with thick, heavy root swellings; crown spreading with pendulous branches; petals absent.
Ecology : River- and lagoon-sides; humid gully; evergreen and deciduous forest; somtimes in marshy places; half-deciduous forest with Celtis; scattered in many types of forest; to ± 500 m alt. (Nimba Mt.).
