Biology : Tree 2-12(-20) m; bark grey or grey-brown, smooth, not corky, with prickles; branches armed with prickles.
Ecology : Dry habitats with scrub and wooded grassland; deciduous woodlands; bushland; also coastal sand dunes; 0-1950 m alt.
  Botswana, S. Africa, Swaziland.
  Cultivated in many parts of the world.
  Forming hybrids with E. abyssinica and E. latissima (cf. under E. x coddii ).
