Trop. Afr.
Biology : Tree buttressed at the base, 12-36 m tall, with grey bole 0,3-1,25 m or more Ø, armed with conical corky-based spines; bark smooth; usually flowering (long pink racemes) when leafless;
Ecology : Rain-forest; deciduous and half-deciduous forest; near swamp; secondary forest; 500-1600 m alt.
  Not in Mali. One of the largest and one of the most beautiful species in the genus when in bloom.
