Trop. Afr.
Biology : Shrubby perennial herb, much-branched, 1-4,5 m tall; branches often slightly ribbed, with indumentum varying from appressed puberulous to spreading yellowish tomentose; leaves 3-5-foliolate, leaflets 4-12x1,5-5,5 cm; flowers large.

Ecology : In a variety of habitats, usually at forest margins, at lower attitudes mostly along river banks and around swamps and lakes; grassland and bushland near forests (Kenya)...; Zaire, 230-2150 m; E. Africa, 1150-2600 m;
  Polymorphic species with variation in indumentum, and in length of stipules, bracteoles and pedicels.
  Not in S. Africa (record from Pilgrims Rest, F. A. Rogers 23745, mislabelled = C. recta fide Polhill 1982: 205).
  Presence in Togo not confirmed.
