Biology : Elegant, erect, wiry, ± branched annual herb 0,2-1,5 m tall; sparsely appressed strigulose; hairs often brown, especially on the inflorescence; branches slender, branchlets rather patent; general appearence of a Phyllanthus.

Ecology : Grassland; cultivated ground; seasonal swamps and flood plains; scrub; sparingly grassy slopes; pathsides; savanna; neglected Cedrela plantation with regenerating mixed woodland with Combretum collinum, Stereospermum kunthianum, etc...
  Morphological variation considerable.
