Ecology : Recently cleared forest areas where Cymbopogon afronardus is a dominant on dark brown loam; swamp; cultivated ground; said to be a pioneer on recently burnt land; rocky slopes in savanna; open bush; etc...
  Intermediates between this species and R. minima var. prostrata do occur.
